Transnational migration, sex work and trafficking on the island of Malta - a PhD project

In the past few years, Malta has welcomed a rising number of migrant workers originating from Europe, Africa and Asia. Among them are sex workers engaging in street-based sex work, offering sexual services in massage parlours, entertainment venues and other sites.

Although trafficking and sex work have been hotly debated on the island, particularly in recent years in relation to a proposed “prostitution” law reform, research on these issues in Malta remains scant. My PhD project seeks to help demystify potential overlaps between sex work and trafficking in Malta. Via this website I wish to provide insight into my research at every step of the way.
